3 ways I am earning income as a farmer who has no idea what I am doing yet
I am a first-generation farmer who's in the very beginning stages of curating my dream homestead and conservation oasis
Dozens of people write me every week telling me that I am ‘living their dream.’ I wish more people understood through alternative means and a little outside-of-the-box thinking, they could do this, too.
I’ve broken down some beginner info about how to get a loan to kick off your homestead/farming dreams with rural land in other articles (I’ll link this one here).
But in this post, I am going to cover 3 different ways I am currently earning income as a member of the agricultural community without knowing what the hell I am really doing.
As someone who ran a freelance writing business for nearly 10-years, starting in 2015 when I quit my corporate job in the world of PR with no plan or clue what I was going to do… I am familiar with jumping headfirst into something I know little about. I live my life through trial by fire - and it has seemed to work so far (well, with many ups and downs). In reality, I understand that I quite literally need to get my hands dirty to be able to demonstrate what I am doing for others to follow. I am a teacher, videographer, and writer by heart. It’s what I love to do!
Before I dive into my different income streams, do note: the world of entrepreneurialism is ever-changing. I will probably write a follow-up article to this one in a few months to compare my monetary streams. Things change, revenue streams come and go, and unexpected money turns up in the most unlikely of places. Therefore, understand that this picture will change for me, and that there is no one right way to earn money through your farm - or through any small business.
Lastly, I did write a 200-page book in 2022 about all my different side hustles as a freelance writer, called Freelance Your Way to Freedom. Reviews are appreciated!
As a member of the financial transparency community, I will always share the taboo ‘numbers’ around what I am doing here. You can count on it!
