Exactly how much it cost me to build a 74 x 36 foot barn center from scratch
The moment everyone has been waiting for: I am finally disclosing the total cost to have my barn, foundation, septic system, parking area, and electricity done at my property.
More people than ever before will consider exiting cities and suburban areas this year, with the dream of owning their own land, growing their own food, and living free from the chemicals in everything we consume.
People are looking for alternative living arrangements to make this happen, from barndominiums to refurbished shacks and shipping containers. It’s a sign of the times and the impossibly expensive real estate market that’s shutting out so many millennials and Gen Z from the promise of home ownership. I believe having a multi-purpose structure built, like the one I had constructed by the Amish last year, is going to become more common.
Therefore, in this article, I will disclose what the final cost was, including everything from the septic system and parking area, to the barn itself, to give you a better idea of the price tag that came with this property.
As I always say: no two farms are the same. Your personal land and farming journey will be very different from mine. Though I do understand disclosing this kind of information will help others make a more informed decision.
I recently spoke with another bank/credit union that’s adding BluRail Excavating, the Amish builders who developed my property, to their list of approved construction companies. That means financing is now possible with these guys, though it wasn’t back when I bought my barn in cash. This has me excited for them - and for you - making Amish craftsmanship available to everyone.
Lastly, I break down in this article how you can obtain a construction loan through Farm Credit as well.
So without further ado, it’s the moment everyone has been waiting for: the total cost of my 74 x 36 foot barn center.
