Here's the total cost to insulate my 2,600-square-foot barn center
I had my barn insulated three separate times with spray foam insulation earlier this year. This was the total cost.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t stand in the middle of my barn every day, in awe there is not a single draft or leak of cold into the structure. It’s been consistently below 20 degrees F in Upstate New York for weeks now, and having grown up in this climate, I know it’s typically unavoidable to hemorrhage heat this time of year.
With my structure being 2,600-square-feet with 26-foot-tall ceilings, I figured my monthly heating and electric bill would be significant. As I break down in this article, I have been shocked by how little it costs me every month to heat a structure this massive, with whipping, icy cold winds outside (lots of corn and hay fields around my property).
The Amish brother duo that built my barn for me hired their cousins, who own an insulation company, to complete spray foam insulation in April of this year. The company came back three separate times to ensure the insulation was thick, thorough, and consistent throughout the structure.
Like almost everything that had to do with the building of my barn, I was fascinated watching the different layers of spray foam insulation each week expand in place to make sure a structure of this size would be warm come the wintertime.
If you’re considering building a barndominium, barn center, or want to convert a prefab structure, here is some insight into what the total insulation cost was for my barn.
