Here's what my farm costs me monthly
Breaking down the individual costs I incur as a farm owner and farmland loan holder
When I set out a year ago to start a farm as a first-generation farmer with no clue what I was doing, I imagined my agricultural endeavors would cost me some serious cash. I can honestly say as I write this today that this farming financial investment has shocked me at its monthly affordability.
Now, I will not sit here and write that I was able to do this with no money saved. Those of you who have been following me online for awhile know I ran a freelance writing business in my 20s and saved up money to make this a reality. But, I will say that you do not need to pay for a state-of-the-art Amish facility or buy farmland in a notoriously expensive county (I am in Saratoga County in New York State). I did all of those things and am still taken aback by how little my farm costs me per month.
Like any business, costs change on a monthly basis, so the figures I am going to give you below appear to be the average as 2024 comes to a close.
And again, before I disclose the figures, I want to emphasize: no two investments or farming journeys are the same. Directly comparing yourself to mine could undermine the farming vision that God has carefully placed in your heart! I am sharing this information as someone who is committed to financial transparency.
