How Amish builders save you thousands (and still do better work)

As I comb through my invoices from having my barn and farm built out, I realize Amish contractors end up saving you thousands... while also delivering superior work.

It’s strawberry season in Upstate NY, which means Amish families have gallons of berries they need to sell quickly with no way to refrigerate or freeze their produce. I hopped in my Jeep last week with my mom to go buy strawberries from the Amish family that built my chicken coop. They have 16 children, which is why I know they appreciate any farm stand sale at their beautiful homestead (they grow all of their own food).

As I pulled up to the farm stand, I was greeted with a sight that’s become somewhat familiar to me after working with the Amish on and off for two years: half of the family was working swiftly to complete a shed inside their new warehouse.

I didn’t quite understand this concept at first when I met the Amish in 2023. It has taken some time for me to fully grasp what it means when it comes to hiring them for anything from having a new driveway installed, to having an entire barn structure built out.

Truly, while their work is superior to other contractors in the area, the Amish come with the most affordable price tag at the end of the day. I have engaged them in enough transactions to say that confidently.

And here’s why.

(For those of you who don’t live near the Amish - they will ship anything if you arrange a shipper! They are purely entrepreneurial people.)
