How to choose the right land for starting your farm or homestead
Not all land is created equal. This was my 6th real estate transaction, which means although I am not a seasoned land developer, I do have experience with good and VERY bad investments.
We don’t talk enough about how everything on this planet is living, even the things we deem to be lifeless. We associate the plants and animals that frolic on land with beating hearts and flowing blood - but we consider the land below them to be inanimate, a commodity that has been bought and sold since we arrived on this continent hundreds of years ago.
The land you want for your farm or homestead is very much living, and comes with its own energetic vibration and past that you will want to know and experience before you make an offer.
I have owned both good and bad investments (I am happy to explore the bad if that interests you all), which is how I learned along the way there is more to buying land than simply clicking ‘inquire now’ on Zillow.
In this article, I will go over the obvious, and the not-so-obvious, when it comes to selecting land for your homestead, farm, rural business, or mini community. I couldn’t find any of this information online when I took a chance on raw land in 2023. I am not sure why people don’t talk about it to be honest, but it’s all the more reason why I want to come on here and be as transparent as possible with you all.
I fully believe 2025 is going to be the year we see people start living WITH nature as opposed to fighting it. I believe we are going to see this in country and rural settings, sure, but also in urban and suburban as well. The age of ‘solarpunk’ has arrived, and if you’re feeling the pull to be part of this movement, know that you are not alone.
Without further ado, let’s dive into selecting the right land for your gardening, farming, and homesteading dreams.
