What does it cost to have a propane tank buried and filled?

What does it cost to have a propane tank buried and filled?

I'm breaking down the size of my propane tank, what it cost to have it installed/buried, and my ongoing propane delivery costs here at the farm.

This time exactly one-year ago, I pulled down a long gravel driveway outside of Canajoharie, New York to tour an Amish farm. I couldn’t believe I had been invited to see the inner-workings of an Amish farm, much less that I was working with an Amish brother-duo to have a potential barn put on my property. They had installed my driveway for me a few months prior, and I was so impressed with their speed, professionalism, and affordability that I asked them if they would build out the whole property.

After a few weeks, they agreed.

I was invited to their homes (the brothers’ homes are next door to each other) so they could show me examples of barns, materials used, heating methods, etc. When they tried to explain this stuff to me over budget negotiations, I was too much of a novice to understand my options. I truly would not have blamed them if they told me I was too uninformed to go through with this.

After I walked around the first Amish property, I drove up the hill to the other brother’s farm that was further away from the main road. I walked into his home (every time I have been invited inside an Amish home I am very honored and grateful - this is not something that happens often) and was instantly hit with a powerful, soothing, and permeating heat that made me feel warm and at peace. It was very cold that day.

“This is the in-floor radiant heat we have here in the homes,” said John. “It’s powered by hot water moving under the floor.”

I knew in that moment I had to have it in my barn. The rest was history.

My in-floor radiant heat is powered by propane, which means my propane costs are what it costs to heat my barn. I am going to break down for you what it cost to have my propane tank installed and buried, as well as what my ongoing propane costs are now having lived through three very cold months here in the barn.

Let’s dive in, shall we?
