I love this series and thank you for sharing your journey. Hailing from nearby that region I can tell you that the Amish migrating north has restored many of the farms that were falling into complete ruin.
I want to challenge you with this thought: you say that they are not American but have lived here 100 years, but I submit that given their stalwart nature, craftsmanship that we as a people shared in our remote past, the Amish may be more American than we have evolved to today.
My parents have befriended a few Amish families in your region, and the interiors of their homes are stunning, they have a real eye for design, proportion and color that is not antiquated.
Your quest for farmland I think is uncovering some very reassuring strengths that we have in our midst, and those are things we need to return to and amplify. Love these articles.
Yes! I actually meant my family has only been here for 100-years... I maybe should've worded it better! But I agree - the Amish pursue the American Dream better than anyone.
Perhaps, make chances and adopt their work ethic / life style, philosophy, but you may be already have that...(just watch with the bit about the beard, though😵💫☺️🙃🤔) 🐙🌌🙏🏻
I’m loving this. I’m a Hoosier and have lived near Amish communities. But all my family except myself and younger brother are native Saratogians going back almost 2 centuries. I’m itching to get back.
Alex, I am just so enthralled to keep witnessing your journey over these last few years! Can’t wait to read what happens next. Thank you for being you, and for shining such an empowered and beautiful light into the world! 💖
As a civil engineer that used to run heavy construction crews I’m very caught up in your adventure. The smartest people I’ve met in my life don’t have college degrees. Keep the chapters coming!
So cool what you're doing. Found out we're neighbors when SS put you in my feed. I know Schuylerville well. Spent 10 yrs in Greenwich & Cambridge so going through to Saratoga back & forth a lot. Now own a horsefarm 15 min southeast of Saratoga. I've also had dealings with the Amish. They do great work. I was a remodeling contractor for a long time so I would know. I wish you all the best & feel free to ask me any questions about farming or building etc. Someday I'd love to visit your place when I visit up that way. We're about 45 min away.
Your stories, experiences and writing are all very captivating! And it's fascinating information. Really looking forward to reading how your project is coming along!
Alexandra, what a lovely story about your quest with the Amish community! I'm so happy for you! I live in a Barndominium my carpenter husband built... and let me just say it's been a journey of testing patience and what truly matters in life.
Although our interior isn't quite finished yet... it is liveable which I'm incredibly thankful for.
He too is a freelancer and is an independent business owner... been through a lot of ups and downs, but I couldnt agree with you more... Americans aren't taught to ask critical questions, or taught to do things they aren't comfortable with. Schools are designed to create worker bees that obey and consume!
Again, I'm so happy for you, and wish you the very best on your quest!
I have so much more in common with the Amish than I do with the English!
Wow I did not realize you had written that book! I had read it a few months back and then stumbled across your Substack not even connecting the two. Keep up the great writing!
The way you write so far, to me is. Making me use my imagination mkre with each paragraph I read. For me this is not a bad thing as this is they way all stories occur in my own mind. From the I tense vibration of the bees on your land I knew right away you would be bottling unpasteurized honey. I have a feeling g soap and maybe CA dles will be in the works as well.
My intuitions these days are off the charts accurate and you seeing auras and a few other tbi gs you said tells me I'm reading your work because the u verse or those Man faeries brought us together for a reason yet unknkwn. Don't want to sound like a tik tok ad for readings. That isn't what I'm here for.
I thoroughly believe in like you say in your subscription add of giving things away for free. It brings you to the right person the right place at the right time. EVERYTIME. Sorry so long winded. Sometimes I just have to get the point out.
You write with clarity, honesty and vulnerability — the trifecta of truth! Congrats on your journey so far and what’s to come 👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you 🙏
This is truly awesome!!!! 👏
I am based in Canada and not sure how to even remotely start such an endeavour but it would be my dream to do so.
Kudos for your effort hard work promptness etc!!
Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us
Happy to keep sharing ♥️♥️♥️

I'm loving this series. Suddenly, I want to work with the Amish, but I'm miles away in Nigeria.😂

Thank you so much!
Being a Londoner, I am far away, but only in apparent distance. Not in spirit. I simply adore The Amish (...and their work ethic)👏🌌
Thank you for your writings 🙏🏻
ps: I should make time & rewatch that excellent movie - the witness - 🙃
I’ve been told I need to watch it!!
Oh yes, please do 🙏🏻💙👍
Love that first picture. Seeing three of Santas elves brings me already in Christmas mood 🎅🏼
Hahahah love that

Thank you! I love writing about it :)
I have been following your journey for so long! This has to be the coolest thing you’ve done so far, and that’s saying something😆
Living your adventures vicariously! I wish I were younger! I’d try this myself!🙂
It's never too late!
