Everything about this idea works. Wouldn't it be cool if garden areas were included in planning, so that there would be a common area in each neighborhood to be used as a garden. Not exactly what you were describing in your article, but related in that it empowers people to think about growing their own food.

I really enjoy your articles, and think your Ideas are going to catch on in your area. Are you aware of Amish produced magazines. I subscribed to one, PLAIN magazine years ago. Don’t know if it is still published. Also, you need to read Wendell Berry, if you are not already. He would really resonate with you. Keep up the good work.

Cool, when we moved back to Northeast PA in 1971, my family did this (we owned the farm).working the land is worth it; fresh produce tastes so much better than store bought.

Happy New Farming Year! You go, girl - doing your life's work - loving people, loving animals, loving Nature, growing food, expanding ideas...it all starts with one person. In Germany there have been community gardens for over 100 years, even within larger cities.

I think that $300 a month is not affordable and overpriced. Perhaps $300 a year! Considering farming fruits, vegetables, herbs is seasonal. With a portion of the bounty of each season going to the land owner or neighbors.

I agree. A good size Community Plot For Growing needs to be very affordable so that even people of modest or almost no means can use them.

I think you're right, most land rentals and leases are on an annual cycle.

Envisioned this concept coming to America and exploding in the next few years for reasons you outlined. During WWII victory gardens were the thing, today basis ownership or lack thereof a new model is seeding and going to flourish. Watch it happen and Lord willing I’m part of it.

Rent is gonna skyrocket when everybody starts renting land to grow their own food and store bought food prices are gonna dump hard. Then everybody will start buying food from the store again 😁
