I understand government paranoia - trust me. However, the USDA's NRCS branch has been nothing but kind and helpful to me, without requiring a single contract to be signed.
I'm running out of accolades for you and your amazing journey. Yet, there is one thing I can say to you with absolute certainty that never gets old. Thank you, Alex, for sharing. You are an amazing woman.
Thanks for sharing more information regarding small scale farming! Hopefully I can find a patch close to my home and try out some of these great ideas ⭐️
This is the first of your emails I read, I have been following your journey on TT and am in awe of what you've accomplished. I will be staying tuned and learning and getting inspired as your journey continues to flourish.
Thank you so much for the Cornell tip! I’m working /participating in a community garden in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, and I’ve started with one of the courses right away. It’s opening my eyes for some aspects that I was not aware of. For instance that it might be worthwhile to ask our neighbors, especially from Moroccan or Turkish or Eastern European background what they would like to grow /have us grow in the garden. Clearly the mint is a big hit, for tea, and we’re taking care that it’s abundant and easily accessible. But there might be other vegetables, herbs, fruits that we are not aware off are on their wish list. So I’ll initiate a round of Ask your neighbors.
Fresh food situation is less dire here than it is in urban US - very few people can’t afford to buy fresh vegetables and fruit and it’s available everywhere. But still…
Also, I just realized we have a lot of refugees here in town. It might be an idea to have them participate or even start a project especially for them.
Government support is needed for many people, but what has happened in the last 100 years is that we rely on Government for nearly everything. We are not self governed as our nation was designed, like the Amish, but we need Government to do everything for us to survive in business, family and personally. Our generation has often become so dependent on Government support without it we cannot survive. You seem to be a bit of a rebel and free spirit as a women. I say thing as a near positive accolade. Your ideas to share your story with others to be farmers and possibly rely on Government support, free money and all the positive news, don't forget those helping you that work for Government are more dependent than you are now, and in their hope to maintain there jobs every person in America one day should all work for Government and be solely dependent on Government. Give it 5 years and perhaps we all can be run by the Government rather than be self governed. We must save the farmers will be the plea!
Cool beans ..loving your content .just popped on my feed. I have 12 acres and need to do something with it. I will look into USDa eqip, Farm Loan and my current credit union who loaned the money for this land. I would love to add a barn house like yours. I'm in Texas. How would I get something like it built here?

Aw I am glad you like the content Gary!
I am about to close on a small, 12 acre farm with old farmhouse and dilapidated barn in NY, and turning it *back* into a farm is exactly my plan.
You are inspiring me to do more with my 10 acres in N GA. I've learned a lot from you, good ideas...thanks and best wishes.
Aw that makes me happy!

Aw I am glad you are here!
Accolades to you for getting the most bang for your buck out of the tax payer dollar.
It must be true that most folks just want things to get better.
A big part of getting better in my mind entails.....
getting one's hands dirty in the soil.....
and feeling the earth's bounty!

I can’t believe I might have found my dream property next to my favorite regrarian farm! If we get out I will definitely take your advice!

It's hard to get something for nothing today. Glad you did with no contract. 🍒🍒
What's funny is these programs are funded by our tax dollars. So I have in essence paid into the help I am requesting. I wish more people would!
