Today kicks off my second round of construction and excavation with an Amish company out of Canajoharie, New York. They have changed my life in every way since meeting them in 2023.
Thank-you so much for such a beautiful & truly inspirational article. You are accomplishing your dreams & at the same time giving the Amish community much deserved credit for their love of God & their unwavering commitment to excellence in everything they do.
I quit farming roughly 1,000 acres (small farm around here) in the Mississippi Delta after 2018. Just was not profitable enough. Expenses are just out of reason now. I do enjoy the recountings of your Adventures, and Hope they are Successful. I wish I could send you something by Wendell Berry but don’t know how to get it to you. I believe his writings would really fit you. He is available on Amazon. Maybe some of your readers will be interested in him. Good Luck on your Endeavors, and may you have a Blest day.
Thank you so much! I have a farm PO Box that people occasionally send books to actually! PO Box 66 Schuylerville NY if you feel so inclined. I do love all books!
Congratulations Alex!!! So much happiness in your article for completing another one of your dream projects. And what a view from the main building to the farm stand. I am talking about the photo that shows the mountain in the background. Thanks for sharing.
I live in Northern Indiana. And a few generations back I have that same Amish blood in me. I can say they are great workers. But like any community you can get bad ones too. I'm glad you were blessed with good ones. The Lord is doing a great work in you, I can see.
I always look forward to reading your Substack about the burgeoning farm. This posting may be my favorite. Your joy is evident. Your attitude and faith in this project is infectious and radiates throughout your postings. I am very happy for you, enjoy your work and wish you all the best.
The capital required to create a successful agricultural operation is extraordinary. I can only imagine the volume of production required to get a sustainable operation. Hobby farming is a luxury few will ever have.
I'm concerned about the disappearing bees. Are you going to do hives? My dad did this for many years, we kids helped him with the extraction and looked forward to eating the comb, yummy and it smelled soo good. We warmed up the frames in the sauna to help the honey to flow. This year the Amish voted for the first time to help to try change the America we live in but there will always be "Those kind of people" who disrupt our lives. I think well of the Amish.
I don't plan to bee keep but more so create a place where they can eat, drink, sleep, survive, overwinter, live in bee and bug hotels, etc.! I don't really want to profit off them at this time. But there will be a lot of bees here, that is for sure!! Who knows, maybe I will keep some in the future.

“And the meek shall inherit the earth”
I’m not religious. I was raised in a home that was and right now that phrase sounds a bit familiar.
Wish there were Amish communities near me!
Me too! I would love to get my son access to this. He doesn’t like the way we live today any more than I do. It’s isolating and unhealthy.

I hope you will write children’s books. Picture books and “novels” for new readers (2nd/3rd graders).
My little one would love to help the butterflies.
Aw I would love to do that!
What other communities like the Amish are there around the country? That might be an excellent post…
Nice.
I can see your happy where you are and what you've done. I plan on leaving California soon.
WE have bad govt. Here and time to get out.
Have you thought of indoor farming to avoid aerial spraying contamination?
Bye for now.
Keep growing.
Gene
Yes I am starting 500+ plants indoors right now!

Circle of life! Good things to good people! Nicely done!

Feeding them is easier than boxing and extracting. Maybe a some point when you run out of projects. 😁
Here’s a great story that illustrates the self-sufficiency of Amish communities.
